Mark Doherty was born in 1958 and raised in the foothills above Boulder, Colorado where the confluence Colorado University intellect and NCAR, IBM, NBS and HP scientific research heavily impacted his upbringing, education, and writing. Doherty earned his BA in English and Writing from his home state of Colorado at Western State University, but then spent ten years working as a Colorado ski patrolman in the winter and as a musician, backcountry guide, and freelance writer in Southern Utah during the summer. During the early 1990s, he acquired teaching certifications from Mesa State College in Colorado and Westminster College in Salt Lake City and now teaches International Baccalaureate Senior English as well as 11th grade core English in Midvale, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City located at the foot of the Wasatch Mountain Range. Doherty earned his Master’s Degree in Writing Nonfiction from Southern New Hampshire University in November of 2016. Doherty has published numerous freelance essays, articles and stories as well as three self-published books. His newest poetry chapbook Walking Natural Pathways was published in May of 2018 by Unsolicited Press, and his memoir-oriented book Creativity, Teaching, and Natural Inspiration will be released through Unsolicited Press in May of 2019.
