 TREADWELL ‹ On Thursday, April 18, as part of its ongoing 
National Poetry Month Celebration, Word Thursdays will present poets 
George Drew of Poestenkill and Christine Gelineau of Windsor.  They will 
 read from their poetry and sign copies of their books after the open 
reading, which begins at 7 p.m., and during which all present are invited 
to read from their own poetry or fiction or that of another. The readings 
will take place at the Bright Hill Center, 94 Church Street, Treadwell, a 
block north of Route 14 (Main Street).  There is a small admissions fee for 
adults; all those under 18 are admitted free.
 
 George Drew was born in Mississippi and raised there and in New 
York State.  His poetry has been widely published in the ³Antioch 
Review,² ³Beloit Poetry Journal,² ³Hollins Critic,² ³Mississippi Review,² 
³Poetry Northwest,² ³Quarterly West,² ³The Quarterly,² ³Salmagundi,² 
³The Southern Poetry Review,² ³The Texas Review,² and many other 
journals and literary magazines.  His work has been anthologized, most 
recently in ³North Country² and ³The Anthology of Magazine Verse and 
Poetry.²  His first collection, ³Toads in a Poisoned Tank,² appeared in 
1986 from Tamarack Editions; his second, ³So Many Bones: Poems of 
Russia,² was published in 1997 by Rarus Press, a Russian publisher, in a 
bilingual edition.  Drew has given poetry readings in many venues, and 
has been a staff member at The Frost Place in Franconia, New Hampshire 
as part of an annual conference for middle-school and high-school 
teachers of poetry.
 
 Christine Gelineau lives on a farm where, along with her husband, 
she raises Morgan horses.  She is the author of the chapbook ³North 
American Song Line,² and her poems have appeared in numerous 
journals and anthologies, including ³American Literary Review,² 
³Seneca Review,² ³Beloit Poetry Journal,² ³Kansas Quarterly,² ³Florida 
Review,² ³Green Mountains Review,² ³The American Voice,² ³Kalliope,² 
and the ³Paterson Literary Review.  She is an adjunct assistant professor 
in English at SUNY Binghamton where she teaches and coordinates 
department¹s reading series.
